DO BLONDES REALLY HAVE MORE FUN??

This last week I went through the biggest life change........ I DYED MY HAIR!

I am a true blonde at heart... or should I say by brain - as well as naturally.  Looking back at the photo's when I was 2 I had extreme blonde hair (although this was natural I like to think I was already a Gwen Stafani fan).  During my big city-life in Calgary my then dyed blonde hair was the best excuse for my  too quick, without thinking, responses that came out of my mouth faster then I could order a dirty gin martini.  I made friends fast, was self diagnosed crazy and spontaneous, and always was ready for the next big party!  I'd bartend on weekends and attended all the social events I could before feeling I needed a couch day.  I was blonde - and I had a blast!

After working at several high-end restaurants I wanted to get into the bar industry - I applied at one of the hottest bars in Calgary, a socialite hot spot, I wanted this job bad!  When I was hired - I thought I had really proved that I was a great fit for their establishment with my experience and attitude but after working my first week I went to the office to do my cash-out and was troubled with what I found.  My own resume... pinned up on the managers desk.  At the top of the resume (where the hiring manager had scratched notes) was point form sentences.... *Blonde *Blue eyes *Outgoing.  Was that what I was hired for?  It bothered me - I wanted to be hired for my accomplishments, my credentials... but nope.  It drove me to try something out... I was going to dye my hair and see what difference it really made.

I went extreme - dyed my hair near black - and immediately started noticing change.  But I kinda liked it.  When guys would hit on me it wasn't the normal pick up line "where are you partying after", "what are you and your friends doing later" or "you are so fun - lets do shots"... instead it started being "what did you take in school", "can I buy you a drink" and "your interesting - lets grab a coffee this week".  REALLY?!  Are the stereotypes really that true?

I felt like being blonde made me fun... but being brunette made me smart.

For my wedding (2 years ago) I wanted to go back to my roots and return to blonde.  So I went through the gruelling process of that in-between hair.  But I was back to blonde for the big day.  Now that I am married... live in small town southern Manitoba... and have a career I'm successful in - I know I don't have to prove anything to anyone but myself.  This week after going to see my fav stylist - I jumped off that same cliff - I needed change - and brunette it was!

All stereotypes aside I'm still the same person... fun, sometimes crazy, career focused and always driven!  And just to prove that brunettes can have just as much fun - I don't feel compelled to get in my SUV and go on a last minute road trip, down 5 shots of tequila and still try to look sexy or even wear the highest heels while trying to speaker dance - instead I'll just be myself... and hang out with my hubs and friends... and love my awesome, fun life!
